A lovely aspect of Viterbo is that it has the feel of a city, but also has some places to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Recently I visited the park of Prato Giadino, a big municipal park right outside the city walls. The park faces the Porta Fiorentina entrance to the city, and is easily accessible to residents and visitors. When you enter the park gates, the first thing you will see is a beautiful koi pond surrounded with rocks, and often a few ducks swimming around. The rest of the park consists of an open stretch of grass in the center, and around the sides, a few walking paths that lead through the many trees and bushes. It is a lovely place to walk around or to relax if you have the day free. In one corner, there is also an area for children, complete with a carousel and other rides for kids, as well as a place to buy Ice cream and snacks. This park is a great place for couples, families, or individuals to enjoy time outdoors. As a student, I love to sit in parks sometimes to study and listen to music, and this one is a great location for doing so. There are many benches located throughout the park, so you can sit where you like and enjoy the scenery. If visiting in the evening, this is an excellent spot to watch one of Viterbo’s beautiful sunsets, and if visiting during the day, to soak up the sun. I was definitely pleased with Viterbo’s selection of parks and, would now call Prato Giardino one of my favorites.
